PA6.6 Monofilament Yarn Used in Hook and Loop Fasteners
Today we are going to talk about a small object that seems ordinary but has changed industrial manufacturing - Velcro tape.
The invention of Velcro is actually the result of engineers learning from nature. In 1941, Swiss engineer George de Mestral found that the burdock balls were firmly attached to the dog's hair when he was hunting with his dog. Under a microscope, the small hooks on the burdock balls formed a tight bite with the hair ring structure - he had a flash of inspiration and spent 10 years to develop the world's first nylon Velcro.
Early Velcro used ordinary nylon, but the high temperature, oil pollution and vibration in industrial scenes caused traditional materials to fail frequently. Engineers continued to explore until polyamide 66 (PA66) came on the scene. This material has a higher molecular chain density than ordinary nylon, a melting point of up to 260°C, and a greatly improved tensile strength, instantly becoming the darling of high-end industrial fields such as automobile manufacturing, electronic equipment, medical equipment, etc.
More importantly, Syntec PA66 can add recycled nylon, so that every meter of Velcro can reduce carbon footprint - technology and environmental protection, we want it all!
From imitating burdock grass to the birth and application of new materials, the evolution of Velcro is a miniature epic of human wisdom.
